Pagode Percussion Workshop with Dudu Tucci

An intensive one-day workshop dedicated to the vibrant world of Pagode – a popular samba style with strong roots in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, widely appreciated by samba musicians throughout Brazil and beyond.

The workshop focuses exclusively on the key percussion instruments played during a Pagode: rebolo, tan tan, repique de mão, tamborim, reco reco / ganzá, and pandeiro. Workshop content includes:

• Learning important rhythms and playing techniques on one or more Pagode instruments
• Developing rhythmic independence and strengthening improvisation skills
• Clear, confident playing and developing stamina over longer playing sessions
• Gaining insight into the musical structure and cultural background of this samba style

Although this course is focused exclusively on percussion, the skills learned will prepare you to join a Pagode roda (session) alongside harmony instruments like cavaquinho and vocals - or to enrich your own repertoire if you enjoy singing and playing yourself.
